Today is GOOD TROUBLE Day

Good Trouble Day is a day of action held on July 17, the anniversary of John Lewis' death. Lewis was a member of the U.S. House of Representative from Georgia's fifth district and a prominent member of the American Civil Rights movement. LWVGC is sponsoring a reading of the graphic novel March to call attention to current threats to our democracy. Please join us tonight, Thursday, July 17, at Mac's Backs-Books on Coventry, 1820 Coventry Road, Cleveland Heights, at 6 PM. Please register for this event here.

URGENT Call to Action

Governor DeWine recently used his line item veto authority to veto 67 provisions in Ohio's 2026-27 Main operating budget. We need everyone to take action to guarantee that these vetoes stand.
Lawmakers in the General Assembly have scheduled a July 21 session to try to override the following three vetoes:
Veto # 55: This law would grant county commissioners new authority to reduce a levy passed by voters for a school district or other taxing authority.
Veto # 65: This law would change how the tax rate is calculated in a way that would result in schools getting a lower guarantee of tax revenue.
Veto # 66: This law would take away local authority to decide what kind of property tax levies work best in their communities - effectively eliminating home rule.
Please contact your legislators here. (I just did it, and it took less than a minute.)

Please update your information

Please make sure that you have a complete member profile - one that lists your chapter, your interests and your skills and expertise. It is easy to do. Just login to the LWVGC website and click on the red down arrow next to your name in the upper right corner. You will be directed to a page where you can fill out your information. It is especially important to complete your profile now that LWVUS has taken over membership from local leagues. Thank you!

League of Women Voters of Ohio

LWVOhio sends out a comprehensive email every week. If you are a member, you should receive it (unless you opted out.) This email is packed with information about statehouse Advocacy actions, member actions, lists of resources and so much more. If you are not receiving these emails and would like to get them, please let me know at JSavitt@lwvgreatercleveland.org. I will get your information to the Communications team in Columbus.
