Empowering Voters. Defending Democracy.
We educate. We advocate. We participate.

We are a nonpartisan organization of adult and student members that seeks to educate about issues and policies in our city, state and nation. We research and report on key issues through forums and positions. We help register voters and urge all citizens to vote and make their voices heard.

Join in our work. Online. Or download a mailable Membership or Renewal Form.

Our Work in 2021-22
The primary focus of the Southeast Chapter in 2021-22 was voter forums. We produced a voter forum for candidates for the local board of education . All five candidates and approximately 40 voters attended. We recruited some new members from the audience at the forum.

For the first time, we offered in-person voter forums for some municipal elections. Although we were unable to host voter forums in Bedford and Oakwood due to a lack of competing candidates, we hosted a voter forum for the Bedford Heights City Council, and we co-hosted a voter forum for the Walton Hills Village Council, collaborating with the Citizens League of that community .

We held our annual meeting at 6:30 pm on Thursday, June 30 using Zoom.

Chapter History

The Southeast Chapter is the newest chapter within the Greater Cleveland League of Women Voters (LWVGC). A voter forum for Bedford School Board candidates in 2019 led to the formation of the chapter. After holding an organizational meeting in August 2020, Southeast was officially admitted as an LWVGC chapter on September 19, 2020.

In the fall of 2021, the chapter hosted voter forums with candidates for Bedford School Board and Bedford Heights City Council and participated in a voter forum hosted by the Walton Hills Citizens League.

The chapter holds an annual meeting in June, workshops and forums, and an annual winter meeting in January.

The Southeast Chapter Needs Observers!

Observers are the eyes and ears of the League, enabling us to understand how  government works, track significant issues, and promote governmental transparency. Southeast Chapter Observer Corps is planning to start small by covering Bedford School Board meetings. Several chapters (Cleveland Heights-University Heights and Shaker Heights) have observer corps for their communities. See those chapter pages to view their reports.
