Getting ready for election season

2025 Your Voice, Your Vote Your Power Tour

The second annual LWVOhio Airstream Tour of college campuses got off to a great start last Saturday at Cleveland State University. An estimated 1,000 students showed up and several of our volunteers registered close to 100 of them, and answered many questions about voting in Ohio. Thank you to Gale Husney, Voter Services, and her team for making this event a huge success. And thank you to LWVGC volunteers who stepped up to the plate and spent their Saturday afternoon at Cleveland State University.

Redistricting 2025

We are entering yet another redistricting season in Ohio - one mandated by the Ohio Constitution. It is important to know the timeline, and action you can take to work for fair maps.

Here is the timeline:
  1. September 30, 2025 - Deadline for Ohio General Assembly to pass a map. Must pass a 6-year map with a 60% majority of all members of both chambers and 50% of all Republicans and all Democrats. If the General Assembly cannot pass the map, go to 2.
  2. October 31, 2025 - Deadline for Ohio Redistricting Commission to pass a map. The five Republicans and  two Democrats on the Commission must agree to the new map by a 4/7 vote - 2 R's and 2 D's. If the Redistricting Commission cannot pass the maps, go to 3.
  3. November 30, 2025 - Deadline for Ohio General Assembly to pass a map. The maps must be passed by a 60% supermajority and with 50% from both parties. If the maps pass with only a simple majority the districts have additional constitutional requirements and must be replaced after four years.

Although we do not have a vote in the General Assembly, we do have influence - and more influence when we show up. Please consider devoting Wednesday, September 17, to rallying for Fair Maps in Columbus. The rally goes from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, and meets in front of Trinity Episcopal Church, 125 E. Broad St., Columbus. You can find a registration link in the QR code of the graphic shown below.
