From: Wendy Deuring

Heights Chapter E-News -
An Easy QUICK Volunteer Opportuity
and Thanks Galore!

Monday, Oct 6: Last Day of Voter Registration for November's Election
Tuesday, Oct 7: First Day of early voting. Don't forget the Board of Elections has moved to 1803 Superior Avenue!
Tuesday, Nov 4: Election day!
Sunday, Nov 16: 2:00-4:00   Meeting with our City Council Observers. What could they possibly have to talk about?  Come find out at the Noble Road library - 2800 Noble Road  ;-)

Easy Volunteer Opportunity - one shot and done on your own time

We have 200 print copies of the Voter Guide to distribute to places that don't get the Heights Observer and are less able to access the Guide online. The copies of the Guides are on Blanche's side porch at 3021 Yorkshire. You don't need an appointment - the porch is easily accessible from the driveway.

The places we need to deliver the guides to are:
- Judson Park*
- Council Gardens*
- Other Senior Living facilities in CH and UH*
- Apartment buildings, especially around Coventry and in CH North
- Laundromats
- Houses of worship
- Any other ideas?  Choose one, pick up some voter guides and drop them off.  Done!

IF you are able to go to Judson or Council Gardens, please let me know at wdeuring@yahoo.com so that we don't have multiple people going there. I think we are less likely to have duplicates at other places but you can always let me know just to let me know.  There will also be a signout sheet on Blanche's porch so you can note there where you have gone.
And THANK YOU!

Overwhelming Thanks to our many MANY volunteers!

We have completed SIX candidate forums - SIX!  the exciting confluence of two mayoral races, a charter review, and every single race being contested.  This is definitely the high time for local chapters and we definitely hit the jackpot.  We couldn't do it without all of you who stepped up to help out.  And then, as a bonus, University Heights had a Fall Fest for which we staffed a table. SO busy!
The YOU without whom this wouldn't have happened:

** And although we tried hard to keep an accurate listing and to compile the volunteers at all of the forums into a single list, there is the possibility of human error, always.  If we missed your name please accept our most humble apology.  You are still appreciated.

and MOST ESPECIALLY, the forums wouldn't have happened without the incredible leadership of Betsy Tracy, Janice Foster, and Blanche Valancy who thought she had stepped down but thankfully stepped back in to help out.  The planning began back in March to determine dates, to reserve sites, and to line up moderators and videographers.  We also met with Lee Chilcote who had  JUST taken over as director of Future Heights, and whose staff provided expert help with our TWO voter guides.

AND Betsy, Janice and Blanche lined up an expert crew of volunteers for each one of the forums. Volunteers served as voter guide proofreaders, greeters, question runners, question screeners, timers, voter registration, membership, and the candidate information table. Plus our own official chapter photographer, Jack Valancy.  I marvel at how flawlessly the forums ran, even as we worked out the details of the mayoral recall and possible implications, and whether the school board race would be contested or not (having more candidates running than there were seats), and finally the late-breaking details of the City Charter proposed revisions, and finding speakers who could explain the proposal and cite the pros and cons.    This was a LOT of variables to work out within a relatively short period of time.

And thanks also to Amy Vegh, Monica Gordon Pershey and Marilyn Singer who joined Carol Spackey at the University Heights Fall Fest.  They were able to connect with many voters who are paying attention,  and quite a few expressed appreciation for the work that we, and League in general, are doing in this time of change.

Instructions for Living in a Broken World
lean into community
seek out love
applaud the good you see
keep paying attention
talk to your neighbors
dance to the music and embrace art
look for love and small joys
take breaks and relish in nourishing your body
donate what you can
linger at the dinner table with friends
check in with your people
let yourself grieve
love one another as deeply as you can
the storm is upon us and we must hold on
don’t give up, we’re here together.

Bill of Obligations - The 10 Habits of Good Citizens

From the Card Campaign: The Constitution and Voting Rights
Some of you are aware of the "Card Campaign" which was started last year to provide informational handouts to voters. They have just issued two new cards - on our Constitutional Amendment Rights and our Voting Rights.  These cards are designed to be printed out or shared in social media.

The Board of Elections has moved!

In case you missed the news, our Cuyahoga County Board of Elections has moved a bit further west and north to
the former Plain Dealer Building - 1803 Superior Avenue.
For those of you who have been in the current building at 30th and Euclid, you will probably agree this is a good move.

MEMBERSHIP ROSTER IS HERE!

Going forward the directory will be updated quarterly and posted to our chapter's website at www.lwvgreatercleveland.org (and emailed to new members.)  But here is your first (in a very VERY long time) member directory.  With major credit to Janice Foster who just couldn't believe we didn't have such a thing.  Thank you Janice!
* With apologies to people who have joined this year - I have not been able to update the roster, which is a manual process.  If anyone is interested in doing a Review/Replace process, reply to this email and let me know.  Otherwise, I will hopefully have time after the upcoming elections.
