This November's election is primarily for local offices and issues. Non-presidential year elections tend to have relatively low turnout. Writing letters to the editor of local papers and communicating the importance of local elections in peoples' lives is one way to raise voter participation. Writing about your own experience, such as how the school board affects your child's education and prospects, or how judges affect public safety, can resonate with readers.
If you do write a letter, please follow the publication's guidelines for how to submit them. Make sure to proofread your letter for correct spelling and grammar. Keep your content relatively short and to the point. Make one key point instead of several. Also, please write as yourself, not as a representative of the League. Only League leaders can speak for the League.
Please let me know if your letter is published and where.
