Community Event this Sunday, May 3 - JOY OF VOTING

Cleveland, Ohio - On May 3, Project HALOGreater Cleveland Congregations (GCC), and a broad coalition of community partners including Ohioans for the Rule of LawBuckeye Veterans Coalition, and Cleveland Votes will gather for the Joy of Voting 250, a public celebration designed to bring neighbors together, support voters, and highlight the role communities play in making elections accessible, welcoming, and trusted.

Taking place in the garden at Trinity Cathedral from 1:00–3:00 pm on the last day of early voting for the primary election, the event will feature live music, food, and family-friendly activities alongside opportunities for attendees to connect with local organizations and learn how to get involved in supporting elections as volunteers, poll workers, or community leaders.

The Joy of Voting 250 reflects a simple idea: when communities show up for one another, participation becomes easier, and confidence grows.

"People want our elections to feel welcoming, and deserve to be supported," said Jeremy Paris, Project HALO's Ohio Lead. "This event is about bringing people together to celebrate participation and make sure everyone knows when they vote, we've all got their back. What is more American than that?"

"GCC is in this work because when elections feel uncertain, our faith calls us to lead with clarity, courage, and care—and to build a better path for the generations to come," said Rev. James Crews, Columbia Baptist Church, GCC Strategy Team & Battle For Democracy Co-Chair.

Project HALO is a nonpartisan initiative that brings together veterans, faith leaders, legal professionals, and civic organizations to create a visible, community-based presence around elections. Working hand in hand with local partners on events, volunteer engagement, and training, Project HALO helps strengthen confidence in the voting process and supports both voters and election officials.

The event will also serve as a hub for civic engagement, connecting attendees with trusted local organizations working to expand participation and strengthen community life. Organizers hope it will provide a model that can be replicated in other communities across the country.

The Joy of Voting 250 aims to kick off an election season in which everyone can celebrate this fundamental American right. All are welcome to attend.
