Come join us next Sunday at The Wine Spot - 2271 Lee Road - to write postcards to the low frequency voters, urging them to vote.

     - We have 500 postcards!

     - We have 500 address labels!!

     - We have 500 stamps!!!

     - We have suggested text!!!!

 

All we need is you, and maybe your friends and neighbors.  ;-)  There are a lot of people who want to DO something but just don't know what to do.  This is a simple communal way to reach out to people who are known to vote but infrequently.  We have postcards listing what offices are on the ballot this fall, and half of the space on the back for our hand-written message (so not a LOT of writing space to fill).  We only ask that the message be non-partisan. Because these are LWV postcards we are simply urging people of the importance of voting - not for whom to vote.    

 

- Come whenever you can between 2:05 and 5:00 (The Wine Spot opens at 2 so don't show up earlier), and stay for as long as you like.

- If you can't stay, you can stop by and pick up some cards to write at home - we will have them in sets of 10 for you.  (Or let me know if you can't come and we will deliver some to you.)

- If your handwriting is terrible, we can still use your help putting on labels before and stamps after they are written, and if we have time - sorting them into piles by zip code.  

 

The Wine Spot is giving us the use of their event room at no cost, asking ONLY that we purchase beverages and food while there - fair deal.  In addition to wines and cocktails they have non-alcoholic options, and a variety of snack options - mostly in the cheese and meat board category.  The store is also open if you wish to take home some wines or food items.  I marveled at their array of tinned fish before I hurried on to my next task.  

  Yes, most people in our immediate communities are registered, but we can still talk to them!

- Remind them to not assume they are still registered - check their registration in September so they still have time to renew it before registration closes on October 5th.  Registrations ARE still being purged each month.  Assume nothing!  They can go to VoteOhio.gov, or to Vote411.org to check.

- Let people know what is on the ballot in November.  

- Talk to people about the current status on voting by mail. In a surprising change of mind, the state has now mailed out absentee ballot applications to all registered voters! But we are still urging people to vote early in person at the Board of Elections if they can, just to be absolutely sure their ballot is received by the Board in time. 

- Actual ballots will start to be mailed out on October 6th.  Completed ballots MUST BE RECEIVED at the Board by 7:30 pm on election day. There is no window beyond election day.  People can drop their ballot in the drop box at the Board of Elections if they worry there isn't enough time for the US Postal Service to deliver it. 

- Some people want to vote by mail just so they can take the time they need to study the ballot and make their decisions.  They can also see what is on their ballot by going to Vote411.org or to the County Board of Elections website.  There is a link to What's on my Ballot which they can click on.

- Candidate information will begin to be added to Vote411.org in October.

 

I have begun suggesting to people that they go to the Board of Elections and vote in person during early voting.  This way they don't need to worry about the US Postal Service, and they don't need to worry about possible interference on election day.  If they vote at the Board they know then that their ballot is in the possession of the Board on election day.

 

- The Board of Elections is now located at 1803 Superior Avenue.  They are not on Euclid at 29th anymore. 

- Early Voting at the Board is:

Weekdays, October 6-23rd - 8:00 to 5:00

Saturday, October 24th - 8:00 to 4:00

Monday, October 26th - 7:30 am to 7:30 pm

Tuesday, October 27th - 7:30 am to 8:30 pm

Wed-Fri, October 28th-30th - 7:30 am to 7:30 pm

Saturday, October 31st - 8:00-4:00

AND A CAUTION: from the latest All Ohio LWVO call - In Ohio elections so far in 2026, 760 provisional ballots were rejected for lack of valid ID and 928 were rejected for lack of valid registration. Please remind everyone to verify their registration before election day, and if you are registering voters PLEASE double-check their form to make sure every required blank is completed before they walk away. Far too many registration forms are incomplete or illegible. And if you can, remind them to make sure their ID is not expired before election day. The BMV will issue a state ID (not a license) at no cost for people who need one to vote.

 

WE HAVE A NEW DIRECTORY!!! With thanks to Judith Beeler who offered to learn how to use Excel and take over this project, and with gratitude to Janice who just couldn't believe we didn't have a directory in the first place and figured out how to do the first one.

 

Going forward the directory will be updated quarterly and posted to our chapter's website at www.lwvgreatercleveland.org (and emailed to new members.)  The link will be included in the email and can be downloaded by members (which means you need to log in to the website.)

 

This remains a somewhat manual process since the switch to paying memberships through LWVUS, so please make sure you are included in this roster if you are a Heights member (the newsletter does go out to a few people who are not in our chapter), and please make sure the details are correct.  At this point we only have cellphone numbers so if you entered your phone number in the home phone box we can't see it currently.  If your phone number is not listed, and you would like it to be, please, click HERE and let me know what needs to be updated/added/deleted.
