Join the League of Women Voters of Greater Cleveland for a special group outing to see Conscience, a powerful play by Joe DiPietro.
This compelling production explores the 1950s political clash between Senator Margaret Chase Smith and Senator Joseph McCarthy, centering on Smith’s historic “Declaration of Conscience” speech opposing McCarthy’s anti-communist witch hunts. The play examines political integrity, truth, and moral courage in a divisive era, and invites audiences to reflect on the relevance of these themes today. It also highlights the groundbreaking leadership of Smith, the first woman to serve in both houses of Congress, making this a particularly meaningful program for League members and friends.
